Humans are moving faster than ever. With the rise of technology, our ability to get things done has significantly improved. While humans can get more done, people nowadays are also much more tired, stressed out, and burnt out. Humans need to be more mindful.

Today's Stress Problem

Stress is a primary health concern around the world. A study once showed that stress accounts for 80% of doctor visits every year. Stress-related illnesses are the third most serious healthcare problem in the United States, following heart disease and cancer.

The problem is humans are continually doing things. The rush of having to complete tasks and be everywhere creates stress because people are always moving on and thinking about the next thing rather than living in the present moment.

The Benefits of Mindfulness

Mindfulness is maintaining awareness of thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the present moment. Remaining mindful means that a person isn't worrying about the past or stressing about the future—they're alive where they are physically, mentally, and emotionally. Mindful people are present, where they can affect their lives and positively change the world.

There are many benefits to living a more mindful life. It might sound like mindfulness is yet another task to complete, but it doesn't require much to reap the benefits of mindfulness.

Purposeful Living

A mindful person observes, without judgment, how they feel, what they think, and why they're doing what they're doing. After observing and accepting these factors, a person can decide how they want to proceed. They create a response rather than a reaction to life.

The ability to respond will simplify a person's life. Soon they will find things in their lives that no longer benefit them, or they can observe that they've been worrying about something that isn't worth the stress. From there, a person can clear the clutter of their mind and live a more purposeful life.

Better Health

Mindfulness practices like yoga and meditation are scientifically proven to reduce stress in a person's life. One study shows that a person can save between $640 to $25,500 on medical expenses every year by practicing yoga and meditation.

A Better Life

The number one benefit of mindfulness is a better, more fulfilled life. A mindful person is much more self-aware. They live life on purpose and have better health because of that. Mindful living results in deeper relationships with work, other people, and the self. Humans crave deeper meaning—mindfulness is an important way to create that fulfillment in life.

Practicing Mindfulness

Consistency is an essential part of mindfulness. It doesn't take much to live a more mindful life. It just takes regularity.

Meditation is a tried and true method for remaining mindful. Just 10-15 minutes of sitting down, closing the eyes, and breathing deeply is a proven habit for increasing mindfulness. Meditation is a practice people can do every day.

Whether it's handwritten or an online journal, keeping a journal is another habit that helps with mindfulness. Journaling helps the writer identify the thoughts and feelings of the moment. It allows them to process what's going on in their mind. After expressing and accepting these ideas on paper, the writer can decide what to do with those emotions and thoughts.
