Types of Information We Collect
JournalOwl collects information from people who visit our network of web sites ("Surfers") and those who decide to register to use one of our Services ("Subscribers").
Subscription & Personal Information
If you decide to subscribe to our Services, you are required to provide us with Personal Information about yourself, including: your full name and e-mail address. We verify all e-mail addresses, requiring you to confirm the validity of your e-mail by responding (clicking) on a hyperlink in a verification e-mail We send back to you.
In connection with certain Services, you may also be asked to provide information about your employment history, other government identification (e.g., Driver’s License #), certain bank account information, and licensing credentials to fulfilling a transaction, such as signing up as an Owl (Licensed Therapist) or Coach to the JournalOwl platform.
We also collect information about your use of the Services, such as the pages you visit, your responses to links, offers and promotions.
De-Identified Information
We may collect De-Identified Information, for example non-identifiable statistical information regarding website usage. De-Identified Information is collected online information in which all personal information has been removed by JournalOwl. De-Identified Information is used in a collective manner for analyses and statistics in order to improve the Sites. De-Identified Information does not personally identify a specific user.
Aggregate Information
We may collect Aggregate Information such as information about how many users log on to the Sites daily. Aggregate Information is non-identifiable (or anonymous) information about you, such as pages most frequently accessed by you. Aggregate Information is used in a collective manner, and no single person can be identified by that compiled information (for example, the number of people who logged into the Sites in each day). Aggregate Information does not personally identify a specific user.
When you visit the Sites, we automatically collect Aggregate Information about your visit. We can tell the type of computer, browser, and web service that you are using. We also know the date, time, and pages that you visit on the Sites and the geolocation of the device that you are using. Collecting this information helps us design the Sites to enhance your experience during access. We may use Aggregate Information for internal purposes, such as tracking demographic data and providing targeted content to make the Sites. The gathering of this Aggregate Information may be accomplished using cookies.
Technical Information
We collect certain technical information from our users. Our Sites store files called "cookies" on your local computer to anonymously track Surfers and Subscribers. With the use of Google Analytics, JournalOwl can use cookies to track when you return to our network of web sites. We use this information to understand what features are the most used by our Surfers and Subscribers. Google may also use cookies stored on your personal computer to display interest-oriented ads. We can track your IP address every time you log-on (authenticate) to any of our Sites or Services, and discern your Internet browser type (e.g. Mozilla, Firefox, Internet Explorer), operating system, etc.
Your browser is probably set to accept cookies. If you would prefer not to receive cookies, you can alter the configuration of your browser to refuse cookies. If you choose to have your browser refuse cookies, it is possible that some areas of our Sites and Services will not function properly when you view them.
Mobile
We may offer you mobile applications that will help you search for services in your location. If you elect to connect to our mobile services, we may receive and collect information that uniquely identifies your mobile device. We may use this information to offer extended services and/or functionality, including using geolocation data. Some of our Services may require our collection of your phone number. We may associate that phone number to the mobile device identification information. We will not use that phone number for telemarketing unless you have given us permission to do so. You must first provide permission through your device, browser or our application before we obtain pinpointed physical location information from technologies like GPS, Wi-Fi, or cell tower proximity. You can withdraw your permission for our Services to acquire pinpointed location information from your device but turning off the location tracking mechanisms on your device, by uninstalling our applications, or by logging of the Services. We may use the information from your mobile device to deliver the Services requested by you and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and Journal’s Terms of Service.
How We Use Your Information
Any billing or financial information we collect is only used to check the qualifications of prospective Subscribers and to bill them for the use of our Services. We rely on a third-party party credit card processor and ACH provider to process customer payments. Our processor is not permitted to use your billing or financial information for anything other than the purpose of ACH or credit card processing.
Your information further is used to operate and improve the features, offerings and content presented to you by us; to personalize the content and advertisements provided to you; to fulfill your requests for products, programs, and services; to communicate with you and respond to your inquiries; to conduct research about your use of our products; and, to help offer you other products, programs, or services that may be of interest or relevance to you.
When you register for the Services, we will automatically create a profile for you on the Services. We will provide you with the ability to manage other users’ ability to view the information in your profile (this includes both publicly available information as well as that information available to other users of the services). You agree that we may use information you provide to JournalOwl in connection with any given website operated by JournalOwl as part of the services we provide at other websites (for example, if you setup an account for one service, the account profile you create for that service will also be used for, and potentially visible to the users of, other JournalOwl services).
Advertising Networks
We, and certain third party companies under agreement with us, may deploy cookies, pixel tags, web beacons or similar technologies to collect and assemble non-personal, demographic, behavioral and technical information about the use of the Services from our users in order to group such users that share a common interest into general interest categories (collectively, "Audience Segment Cookies").
Such Audience Segment Cookies, which do not identify you personally, may be placed when you access the Services, share content from the Services, when advertisements are presented on the Services, and/or when you respond to advertisements or other offerings on the Services. We and these third party companies may use such non-personally identifiable information in combination with your visits to the Services and other sites in order to present advertisements about goods and services likely to be of greater interest to you, to measure the effectiveness of the Services and advertisements, and to help predict the characteristics and preferences of our audiences and the audiences of our third party companies. We may share certain information about you as a user that does not personally identify you (such as user industry and position) with our advertising network providers in order to help them deliver more relevant advertisements through their ad networks. How We May Share Your Information
Your information will not be shared with third parties for marketing purposes unless it is necessary to fulfill a transaction you have requested, such as, connecting with a coach/therapist, or in other circumstances in which you have given your consent to the sharing of your information to affiliates, partners, agents or other parties whose products or services we believe may be of interest to you. You authorize us to provide your information to any business or entity from which you wish to purchase services. If you do not want to share this information, do not apply to speak with a coach/therapist. The use of your information by such coach/therapist will be subject to their own privacy practices, and we have no obligation to you for the use of your information by such third parties.
We may share your information with our third-party service providers and subcontractors for the purposes of their provision of services to JournalOwl (for example, with a hosting provider, background check provider, or identity verification provider). We will only share your information with those third-party services providers whose services we require in order to provide you with the Sites Services you have elected to use.
The contents of your online communications, as well as other information about you as a user, may be accessed and disclosed: in response to lawful governmental requests or legal process (for example, a court order, search warrant or subpoena), in other circumstances in which we have a good faith belief that a crime has been or is being committed by a user, if an emergency exists that poses a threat to the safety of you or another person, when necessary either to protect our property, to investigate fraud or other breach of JournalOwl’s Terms of Service, as reasonably required for us to provide the Services you have requested, and as otherwise authorized by you in the JournalOwl Services Agreement or an applicable Service Order.
How You May Manage or Delete Your Information
You have a right to request that JournalOwl disclose what personal information of yours we collect, use, disclose, and sell, and a right to request that we delete your information. While certain aspects of the Services may be unavailable if you delete your personal information (for example, we cannot verify your identity without adequate information about you), we will not otherwise discriminate against you in your use of the Services if you choose to delete some or all of your information.
You can at any time go to www.JournalOwl.com, login, and click "My Account" to change or delete your information. Although we may communicate with you regarding any transaction that you initiate on the Services, we will always give you the option to opt-out or unsubscribe from any newsletters or other promotions that we may provide to you.
If you are unable to access your My Account page, you may contact us at the notice for addresses provided in the JournalOwl Terms of Service, or at info@journalowl.com for assistance in deleting, correcting, or updating you information, or to request the details regarding what information of yours JournalOwl currently possesses. If we cannot automatically verify your identity using your account credentials, we may request secondary account verification information based on the information we have on file (a two-step verification process) to verify your identity prior to complying with any such request.
How We Retain Your Information
We retain your information while you are a user of the Sites or Services. We do not automatically delete your information after any period of time. We delete your information when you request that we delete such information, including when you do so through your My Account profile (such as if you cancel or terminate the Services).
Information of Children & Minors
JournalOwl does not knowingly solicit data from children or knowingly market to children. We do not knowingly request or solicit personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 16. In the event that we receive actual knowledge that we have collected such Personal Information without the required and verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information from our database as quickly as is reasonably practical.
YouTube API Services
JournalOwl uses the YouTube application programming interface (API) services (YouTube API Services) to retrieve and share video content with users. When a user or organization makes use of or accesses YouTube API Services via JournalOwl, such use or access is governed by YouTube's Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. JournalOwl does not use YouTube API Services to collect, access, share with external parties, or serve third party advertisements to users. JournalOwl's use of the YouTube API Services are subject to JournalOwl's Terms Of Service.
Third Party Sites
You should be aware that other Internet websites to which you hyperlink from the Sites may contain privacy statements that differ from our Privacy Policy. JournalOwl encourages you to read and understand such privacy policies and terms of use of any linked websites accessed by you. If you decide to access such linked websites and/or provide any personal information to such linked websites, you do so entirely at your own risk. Adamant is not responsible for such provisions, and expressly disclaims all liability related to such provisions.
Effective Date of this Privacy Policy, How Changes Are Made
This Privacy Policy was last modified on May 6, 2022. This Privacy Policy has been adopted with the recognition that Internet technologies are rapidly evolving, and that underlying business models are still not established. Accordingly, these policies are subject to change at any time and JournalOwl expressly reserves the right to modify the terms of this Privacy Policy at any time and in our reasonable discretion. Your continued use of the Sites following our posting of a change notice will constitute binding acceptance of this Privacy Policy and all changes thereto.
