Keeping the Faith
What is Faith?
Seems like a loaded question, right?
It’s not visible, nor is it tangible, and it means different things to different people. For Christians, faith professes an unreserved belief in the Bible, God’s Word to mankind – true, tested, and unchanging. Buddhists believe that faith is defined as serene trust that the practice of the Buddha’s teaching will bring fruit. It is trust and surrender to enlightened or highly developed beings. In a non-religious sense, faith is the complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr.:
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
Having faith in the ‘whole staircase’ keeps you moving forward when life feels uncertain and turbulent. JournalOwl’s 21 Days to Faith will challenge you with thought-provoking questions to help strengthen your faith muscles. Trust the journaling process and join us every day with a new guided prompt.
Have a little faith in journaling and get started today.
Step 1: Rejoice in Thy Youth
1 Timothy 4:12
”Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
Step 2: Listen to Your Parents
“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.”
Step 3: Resist Peer Pressure
“My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them.”
Step 4: Share the Word of God
“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
Step 5: Future Plans and Goals
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Step 6: Why Worry?
“25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”
Step 7: Show Love & Kindness
1 John 4:7
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”
Step 8: Face Challenges Head On
“Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.”
Step 9: Family First
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—
with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
Step 10: Love your neighbor as yourself
31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[a] There is no commandment greater than these.”
Step 11: Heal Our Land
2 Chronicles 7:14
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Step 12: Pray for our Political Leaders
1 Timothy 2:1-2
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Step 13: Pray for Your Church
17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,
Step 14: Pray for Lost Souls
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Step 15: Pray for the Sick
13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Step 16: Steady
12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Step 17: Don't Fear
Step 18: Stay Thankful
12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.
Step 19: Confess Your Sins
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Step 20: Find Contentment
Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked;
Step 21: Never Give Up!
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Step 22: Your Spouse
9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Step 23: Find a Mentor or Be a Mentor
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
